DAPI is a fluorescent dye that binds nucleic acids and demonstrates a high affinity for DNA. It is used  extensively in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and microplate assays. DAPI is cell permeable and is readily used for detecting both live, dead and fixed cells. DAPI emits in the blue spectral range and is ideal for multiplexed assays inclusive of green-fluorescent molecules like fluorescein and green fluorescent protein (GFP), or red-fluorescent stains. Aside from labeling cell nuclei, DAPI is also used for the detection of mycoplasma or viral DNA in cell cultures.

1______d9564-large6-diamidino-2-phenylindole, dilactate
CAS:  28718-90-3
Quantity: milligrams to grams
Appearance: Yellow, soluble in water
Identity (NMR): complies
Purity (HPLC): 98+%

The dilactate counter ions make the dye more water soluble and therefore DAPI dilactate is a better choice if one wants to make the stock solution in deionized water.
